Miss Keyes B.A Hons PGCE DDI

 

Miss Keyes completed her ISTD dance training at Carmichael School of Theatre Arts including Modern, Ballet, Tap to advanced level and a Diploma in Dance Instruction.  Aged 18 Miss Keyes was offered places at Arts Educational, Bird College and Urdang Stage Schools which she declined in order to follow a a career in teaching; Miss Keyes went on to gain a degree in dance from Bath Spa University and has succesfully completed the PGCE in Further Education; Dance.

 

Whilst studying at University, Miss Keyes taught dance and musical theatre classes at Stagecoach, JASPA and Characters Stage School; she also choreographed for national events such as “Cats” at the NIA in Birmingham for the 25th anniversary of Stagecoach. During her time in Bath, Miss Keyes was the head coach of Bath Spa University’s Cheerleading and Dance teams for two years running. Under Miss Keyes' direction they received the following placements; 1st Small Hip Hop, 1st Large Hip Hop, 3rd Small Pom, 2nd Large Jazz, 1st Small Jazz as well as being recognised ‘Team of the year’ at the Bath Spa University Sports Awards. As a performer Miss Keyes has danced for Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, Taio Cruz and Fatboy Slim at the Olympic Closing ceremony in London 2012. She also appeared in the opera Nabucco at Bristol Hippodrome. Miss Keyes was also made Cheerleading Co-ordinator for South Gloucestershire Council where she was in charge of pre match and half time entertainment for the Rugby League World Cup match in Bristol and delivering cheerleading outreach programmes in priority neighbourhoods.

 

Since founding GKDA in September 2013 Miss Keyes has been absolutely thrilled with the success of the academy and is immensley proud of each and every student!

 

Miss Phillips B.A Hons DDE

Miss Phillips started dancing at the young age of 3 at the Carmichael School of Dance and Theatre Arts in Telford. During her time there, she completed her advanced training in Modern and Tap alongside GKDA Principal, Miss Keyes. 

Miss Phillips took part in numerous performances across the West Midlands during her dance education including, The Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations at Cosford Air Field as Lead Dancer, dancing as a Geisha Girl in a production of ‘Madame Butterfly’ at The Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and being employed as Dance Captain for multiple pantomimes with Paul Holman Associates, where on one occasion had to unexpectedly star as Cinderella in a performance, with only one day’s notice! 

After finishing her dance training, Miss Phillips completed her Diploma in Dance Instruction with the ISTD in Modern and Tap. She is currently working towards achieving her Diploma in Dance Education in both styles also at Carmichaels, where she also works as a Dance Teacher. 

Miss Phillips also has a BA Hons in Stage and Event Management from Rose Bruford College in London, where she has organised and produced numerous productions, events and shows throughout her 3 years there, including several times working with the Royal Academy of Music. Miss Phillips looks forward to bringing her production management expertise to the GKDA family as well as her teaching skills. 

Miss Overton USASF 2+3

 

Miss Overton started dancing at the age of 4 at Gaston Payne Dance School where she completed her ISTD and RAD training in Tap, Modern and Ballet. She then moved on to study Musical Theatre at Thomas Telford Sixth form for two years before starting her professional training at Addict Dance Academy where she trained in a wider variety of styles. Whilst at Addict, Miss Overton was succesful in attaining a range of professional jobs; the main one being Leicester’s Pantomime ‘Snow White’, where she was given the role of Ensemble, 1st Cover Understudy for Snow White and Dance Captain. Since Graduating from Addict Dance Academy Miss Overton has successfully gained a place on one of the biggest cruise line companies books, Princess Cruise Line. 

 

Along with her dance training, Miss Overton also competed and now coaches in Cheerleading and Pom at The Cheer Force Ten cheerleading and dance academy. She has represented england in the european championships at Glasgow for Pom dance as well as a range of other competitions up and down the country. Miss Overton has completed her coaching qualifications with the world renowned USASF in cheerleading and tumbling levels 2+3. 

 

Miss Overton is thrilled to join the GKDA faculty; she cant wait to start working with the students and see them transform into the stars they are!

Mr Wharton BTEC

Training in a BTEC National Diploma in Theatre and Performance; Mr Wharton learnt to perfect his talent and before commencing a full time professional acting course, Mr Wharton landed his first professional contract aboard a cruise liner with a Ultra Violet Puppetry Company (then named Corlett’s Characters) and has never stopped since.

 

Mr Wharton took over the Company in 2011 and as the business grew, ‘Krazy Krys & Friends Entertainments’ came alive offering different types of entertainment including; Touring Pantomimes, T.I.E and Workshops, UV Puppetry, Punch & Judy, Magic Shows and Parties. Now with over 22yrs professional experience Mr Wharton has performed in many theatres and Venues across the world:- London Palladium * Theatre Royal - West End * Her Majesty Theatre - West End  *  Shrewsbury Town Hall * Gravesend Play house * Seacombe Theatre * Leeds Variety Theatre * Costa Cruise Lines * MSC Cruise Lines * P & O Cruise Lines * Brittany Ferries * Butlins * Hoburne * Haven * Pontins * Park Resorts * Park Dean Resorts * Away Resorts * Hoseasons * Ibiza - various hotels * Dudley Canal Trust * Dudley Zoo * Drayton Manor * Crealy Adventures.

 

Mr Wharton now brings his breadth of experience into his new role as director at GKDA. He looks forward to working with all of the students on their pantomimes and musicals!

Mrs Keyes B.ED

 

Mrs Keyes has been a teacher AND dance mom for many years! Mother to Miss Keyes, Mrs Keyes is a very valued member of the team and always supports the academy at every event.

 

By day Mrs Keyes is a teacher with responsibility for special needs and child protection; by nights and weekends she is a chaperone, uniform seller, costume maker, receptionist, photographer and lots of other roles to help with the running of GKDA! From time to time Mrs Keyes also assists with Drama lessons working on speech and performance.
