The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is one of the world’s leading dance examination boards. The ISTD’s mission is to educate the public in the art of dancing in all its forms, to promote knowledge of dance, to provide up-to-date techniques for our members, and to maintain and improve teaching standards.
The Imperial Society of Dance Teachers (as it was first known) was formed on 25th July 1904 at the Hotel Cecil in Covent Garden, London. Today the ISTD has more than 7,500 members in over 50 countries throughout the world and holds 250,000 examinations each year.
Miss Keyes holds the Diploma in Dance Instruction from the ISTD and regularly attends their workshop days and seminars to keep up to date!
“I will always believe in the quality that comes from the ISTD...I say to my students that their lessons and qualifications are an investment.” - Karen Hardy, Strictly Come Dancing and ISTD member
"I think the ISTD is a structure that definitely needs to be in place for the growth of a dancer. I trained in ISTD Tap and Modern at Laine’s and I think syllabus work is a necessity." - Matt Flint, former ISTD student and 2011 winner of the BBC's So You Think You Can Dance
